Harvey Weinstein’s life-size statue holding an Academy Award was unveiled this thursday on Hollywood Boulevard by LA street artist
Back in Hollywood on time. Though the controversial American film producer will not be attending Sunday’s Oscars ceremony, a golden piece of art was displayed on LA major’s street. The defamed Oscar-winning producer is seen holding an Academy Award- quite hypocritical as he was fired from the Academy Motion Picture Arts and Science last year.
Los Angeles-based street artist Plastic Jesus collaborated with Ginger Monroe for over two months to produce the ‘casting couch’ piece of work in Weinstein’s name. Though the statue was fully financed by donations, the debate has begun. Always more controversy around one of Hollywood’s most influent man, Weinstein does not seem to be out of the scene.
After facing accusations of over 70 sexual misconducts- The King’s Speech producer denied all of them. The industry was shocked by those revelations. The millionaire was fired from his own company, which just claimed to have been saved from bankruptcy thanks to a $500m last minute offer by a former senior official in Obama’s administration.
Weinstein’s ex-company will still be ongoing employing new directors and staff. The disgraced producer does not seem to ever be far away from the industry, even with all those allegations- artists such as Plastic Jesus seem to commemorate his work.
