A British woman has admitted to killing her toddler in Finland, police officers have said in a statement. The toddler was believed to be two-years-old but their gender is unknown.
Police found the deceased child after being called to a house in Espoo, near Helsinki, on Sunday.
The 35-year old woman has been arrested and appeared in Western Uusimaa District Court on Wednesday.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office told PA: “We are in contact with the Finnish authorities following the death of a Canadian-British child in Finland… Our staff are providing consular support and are in contact with the Canadian government”.
“Due to legislation restricting the publicity of pre-trial material, we will not be able to provide more detailed information at this stage and hardly any later,” said crime commissioner Ilmari Hallamaa.
Local media reported the family has lived in Canada, the UK, and China, but returned to Finland last January.
