Newborn baby girl found in shopping bag in a park last night as London reaches freezing temperature.

A woman walking her dog heard the baby crying as she found it dumped in a playing area off Roman road, East London, at 22:15 GMT . Metropolitan police said she was found in a shopping bag with a white towel next to a park bench with no sign of attempting to hide her.

The baby has been taken to hospital and is in stable condition and was named Roman by the medical staff.

The police urges the mother to step forward as she may be “in need of urgent medical attention”.  Inspector Shane Clarke said, “It is really important that we know that you are safe”. And urges anyone with information about the mother or the baby to come forward in the hopes of reuniting the two.
