Over 32 million Brits will be spending money on their loved ones this Valentine’s Day at around £35 per person. But not everyone is splashing out.
Poundland has sold almost 40,000 £1 engagement rings since January. The “Bling rings” and “Man Bands” have proved to be a popular alternative to the expense of buying flowers and chocolate.
Happy owners of the budget engagement rings took to Twitter to show them off, with one posting, “I’m still having too much fun with these.”
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Here’s a @Poundland engagement ring
Just for you.Happy Valentines Day! ❤️
I promise that’s the last time. 😉🤣 I’m still having too much fun with these. #ValentinesDay2020 #Valentine2020 #ValentinesWithNobody pic.twitter.com/9tTWahWuJ9

Others tweeted that the rings are their, “idea of romance”.
honestly a poundland ring is unironically my idea of romance. the wedding would be held in a nice brutalist cube of a building and be followed by a honeymoon trip to chernobyl. I wish this was a joke but it really is all I want from a relationship https://t.co/2PUicVRE0d
