What we know:

  • A vigil was held last night in Trafalgar Square marking the first year anniversary since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
  • Vlodomyr Zelensky delivered a video on Friday stating that the situation in southern Ukraine is “quite dangerous” and there is heavy fighting on the front line of eastern Ukraine.
  • The US is giving $2 billion in military aid to support Ukraine. President Biden told President Zelensky that they will receive “more artillery, more ammunition, more Himars”, and armoured vehicles and tanks.
  • UK and US announced new sanctions against Russia including export bans on the equipment that has been used during the war.
  • Rishi Sunak leads one-minute silence outside Downing Street at 11am to pay tribute to Ukrainians and highlight the UK’s solidarity with the country.
