Team GB is taking its biggest ever side to a Winter Olympics in South Korea.

A total of 59 UK athletes will be taking part the Games, which kicked off today and will run finish on February 25.

Team GB’s funding body is expecting two or even three medals from skiing and snowboarding, one or two from curling, one in bobsleigh, one to two medals in short-track speed-skating and a top-eight finish minimum in figure skating.

At Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, Britain won four medals which equaled the results of 1924 Chamonix. Team GB won one medal at each of the 2006 and 2010 Games, both of them in skeleton.

Skeleton: Lizzy Yarnold
After her victory in Sochi could become the first British woman to defend a Winter Olympics gold.
Yarnold will also be carrying the Great Britain flag at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

Short track speed skater: Elise Christie
Christie won three golds and one bronze at the World Championships last year but still has a lot to prove after what happened in Sochi four years ago. In fact, she was disqualified three times (500m, 1000m and 1500m) and was blamed by Korean athlete for a mass crash.
The world champion is expected to win multiple golds in South Korea.

Alpine skiing: Dave Ryding
The slalom ski racer is ranked at world No 10. The 31-year-old, won Britain’s first medal on the World Cup circuit in 36 years, finishing second during the well-known event in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Curling: Eve Muirhead
In the 2017 world championships Murihead won bronze leading women’s team. Curling is part of her family: her dad Gordon participated in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, and her brothers Glen and Thomas are also in the curling team of Pyeongchang.
Eve is determined to do even better this at her third Winter Olympics.

Bobsleigh: Lamin Deen
In 2007, Sergeant Lamin Deen’s bobsleigh was spotted competing in the 200m sprint finals at an Army inter-unit competition in Aldershot.
The 36-year-old who initially started the sport as a hobby, barely missed out on World Cup bronze finishing on a fourth-place in Lake Placid in January 2016.
