Cressida Dick’s departure as Metropolitan Police commissioner will not delay the ‘partygate’ investigation into allegations of lockdown parties at Downing Street, according to a source in the force.
A Met source told the Guardian: “The investigation is continuing.” It is understood those working on the inquiry do not believe the resignation of Dick will affect the investigation, and it will continue as planned.
The detectives running the inquiry are expected to start sending letters to those who it is believed attended the parties at Downing Street, including the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
The Downing Street parties have been a huge crisis for Johnson, who has denied claims that he hosted a party during the Coronavirus lockdown. It is alleged that he attended at least six parties, according to the i newspaper.
