A developing male contraceptive has been successful in monkey trials but could cause infertility.
The contraceptive, Vasalgel, blocks sperm flow when injected and make the male infertile.
This contraceptive will be an addition to current male contraceptives; condoms and vasectomy.
A cause for concern with the new contraceptive is its reversibility. Unlike female contraceptives like the pill, which women can just stop taking, with this new male contraceptive it may not be that easy.
The trial results showed that the longer a man waits to reverse the contraceptive, the lower the chance is of reversal. Though reversal is possible, fatherhood cannot be guaranteed.
