Riz Ahmed and Dev Patel have both spoken out about President Trump’s Travel ban at last night’s SAG Awards.

On the red carpet, Patel said he found news of  the ban “utterly devastating”. The actor had been nominated for his role in the film Lion, about a child from India who gets adopted into an Australian family. Patel had flown in from India to go to the awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

“The first thing that came into my head was the children who arrive on these shores with hope in their hearts. It’s horrible. It’s divisive.”

The Night Of… star Riz Ahmed has recently launched a campaign to help young Syrian refugees. Ahmed said: “Now was not the time for escapism. If people care about the future of this country and the world … it’s time to make your voices heard.”

Big Bang Theory actor Simon Helberg also held a sign saying “Refugees welcome” as he walked the red carpet, while his wife Jocelyn Towne had written “Let them in” across her chest.
