Dame Karen Pierce, the current Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations, has been named as the new British Ambassador to the United States.
The appointment follows Sir Nigel Kim Darroch’s resignation in December 2019. He was appointed to the role in January 2016.
Dame Pierce now becomes the first woman to hold the position.
A No 10 spokesperson said in a statement: “The Prime Minister is clear that Karen is an outstanding and accomplished diplomat and he is delighted that she will be representing us in Washington.”
