US President Joe Biden is set to speak to UK prime minister Boris Johnson today about the build-up of Russian troops around Ukraine.

Ukrainian intelligence said around 190,000 Russian troops are assembled on its borders, and thousands more are due to arrive in the near future, PA reported.

Russian troops are currently stationed in Belarus where they are currently doing what is being described as military drills. The Belarusian leader has arrived in Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where it will be decided how long Russian troops will stay in the country. 

Russia is set to conduct nuclear drills on Saturday where Putin will oversee the exercises being carried out by troops. This is set to include the launch of ballistic and cruise missiles.

World leaders are set to arrive in Munich for a security conference, including Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US Vice President Kamala Harris and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. No Russian delegation will be present.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and President Biden have scheduled a phone call to discuss the situation and decide on their course of action.

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin says an invasion of Ukraine could see tens of thousands of people fleeing into Poland. He also adds that the US is continuing to provide material to Ukraine to help it defend itself.

Russia at present continues to deny it has plans to invade Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is giving a news conference alongside Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

It follows talks between the pair held in Moscow.

He states that the US and other parts of NATO are not abiding to a 1997 agreement in his view.

The current threat to the world, according to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, is worse than it was during the Cold War.

Annalena Baerbock, Germany’s foreign minister, says that due to Germany’s history, her country cannot provide arms.

It is being reported that Denis Pushilin the Russian backed Head of State of the Donetsk People’s Republic, an unrecognized separatist state. Has stated that women, children and the elderly will be evacuated to Russia.

The US says this is the biggest Russian troop build up since World War 2.
