Lewis Hamilton’s former team McLaren are studying his contract situation with interest.
Hamilton debuted in F1 with the team in 20017 and won his first title with them a year later.
He drove for the team for six seasons before he left in 2012 for Mercedes and has won three world titles to add to the 2008 championship.
The four-times world champion’s contract with Mercedes ends this season.
The 33-year-old Briton has a season left to think over his current contract, but he is expected to sign a new multi-year agreement with Mercedes.
Yet nothing appears to have been signed yet, allowing rivals to consider over a possible return.
When asked about the situation, McLaren’s executive director Zak Brown told reporters: “I don’t think there’s a team in the pit-lane that wouldn’t be interested in having Lewis drive for them, us included.”
McLaren’s drivers in 2018 are twice world-wide champions Fernando Alonso and Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne.
Alonso is merging his F1 practice with a full-program racing for Toyota in the World Endurance Championship.
However, Brown immediately dismissed suggestions that this could mean the 36-year-old’s commitment to Formula One was dropping.
The next season will start in Australia on March 25.
Considering that champion Kimi Raikkonen is out of contract, Ferrari are likely to have a vacancy at the end of the season.
McLaren are the second-most successful, but have not won a race since 2012 and ended in ninth position out of 10 teams last year, when they split with Honda and started a new partnership with Renault.
The team is hoping to be challenging for the podium again this campaign.
