A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck south east Turkey and Syria on Monday.
Over 3000 buildings have collapsed in seven provinces in Turkey and the death toll has surpassed 21,000 with expectations of that figure to rise.
Almost 30,000 people have been displaced across Turkey and Syria and are in need of emergency aid and volunteers to help support them with shelter, warmth and evacuations.
Local-run donation banks have set up across London over the week, calling the public to donate essential items that are packed into lorries and shipped to help deliver aid to the victims.
Essential items that are being requested include, but are not limited too:
- Blankets
- Sleeping bags
- Tents
- Medicine
- Sanitary Pads
- Thermal Clothes
- Torches
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), made up on 15 UK charities, were one of the first responders to the earthquake and have been working closely with local-led relief efforts to provide aid and on the ground support.
